In more than 30 years experience in growing and selling businesses, I think I’ve seen it all. Twenty-five years growing family businesses from six to eight figures taught me the skills of planning and implementation, patience and the long view as well as the difficult conversations.
Five years on Royal Navy submarine service taught me the importance of teamwork and systems and what to do when things go wrong. Time in financial services taught me sales and the importance of cultivating personal relationships - together with how finance works. As we all know the High Street is under attack, the internet, Brexit and out of town shopping have all been used for the reasons why. But the High Street has always been under attack and ultimately survived. Our towns are full of aspiring high street retailers trying to get going but are struggling to gain traction. Until 2017 and for the past 25 years I have held the position of Managing Director within a Large family business. I have gained valuable experience in growing the company to become one of the largest family-owned companies in the South West operating in areas as diverse as Retail and Passenger Transport. I now want to share my experience with people who have dreams of starting a new business, to more established Business Owners wishing to adapt to the ever-changing market. My experience has taught me that to survive and thrive in this market you need to do what you do better. Having gained valuable insight by doing it, and grown my business from startup to sale to a significant Plc. I know what needs to be done to tackle these challenges, do you? My experience runs across all aspects of running a business with particular emphasis on growth, mergers, acquisitions and disposals. I believe I get the most out of people by helping them achieve their business goals while ensuring balance on a personal level. I am a skilled and insightful mentor and coach. More than anything I believe mutual respect and trust are essential in a mentor-mentee relationship. The idea of having a business coach or mentor is as old as business itself. When you read the biographies of famously successful entrepreneurs, you’ll find comments all over about the trusted advisors, the mentors and friends who gave them guidance to become brilliant in business. In sports, it’s the same too, with top performers in all fields operating with their own coach to help them achieve their full potential. In the UK business coaching and mentoring are recognised as the smart way to grow your business and achieve success faster and reduce the risks of costly mistakes. I conduct free discovery sessions to allow you to get to know me and that I will be the right fit for you. |
